Opera Tickets
Step back in time for a visit to London’s West End, where the venues that house world class shows from every corner of the globe pack in a world of history in their grand designs and impressive auditoriums. Many of these theatres are hundreds of years old, making them great British artefacts steeped in tradition and grand design.
But first and foremost they are theatres, which is why they host so many great quality shows. Long running productions in the West End have included The Mousetrap, Les Miserables, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Blood Brothers and many more. All of these have tapped into the public’s imagination and left a lasting impression on the stages they are performed on.
Blood Brothers is, of course, the famous production from writer Willy Russell, who was also responsible for bringing Educating Rita to the stage. The musical started life as a school play in his home town of Liverpool, before the bright lights of the theatre beckoned and he adapted it as a musical, premiering at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1983 before inevitably moving on to the West End. It originally opened to modest crowds and was forced to close in 1985, but under producer Bill Kenwright it re-emerged in 1988 and has not looked back. It is now one of London’s longest running productions and has gone on to spawn many different productions all over the United Kingdom.
But it is not just Blood Brothers that has been wowing crowds in London’s theatreland. As well as great musicals, plays and comedy, the capital is also home to some award winning ballet and opera shows, from the likes of Carmen and Giselle to Swan Lake, La Bohème and La Bayadere, appearing in venues such as London’s Coliseum to great acclaim. A trip to London could involve witnessing all manner of shows, with many different genres to suit all kinds of tastes.
And it is no wonder all this choice is available, with the rich history that the West End continues to add to. Who knows what we will be talking about in 50 years time? Will Agatha Christie’s Mousetrap still be running strong? Will musicals such as Blood Brothers and The Phantom of the Opera still be drawing in huge crowds, or will they be replaced by even bigger shows, breaking whole new records? Whatever you are armed with, whether they are ballet tickets, opera tickets or theatre tickets for any West End show, you are sure for a great time.
